Why didn’t it change to the correct tense for the sentence as well as the whole song, which would be: PRETENDED?
Some have tried to squeeze in at least a ‘D” by spelling it “pretend’d” but in the audio, theres hardly any sound of the first d let alone any trace of a second.
And the remaining versions that still have the root word begin, are no longer in the correct tense, begin.
Would pretendED have been too noticeable of a change? Can’t fathom any reality where the author would have gotten the tense correct in every other sentence of the song except for <insert new verb> TO PRAY
Past DEVOTION now with current PRETENSE? (pardon pun)
